They want you to picture commandos heroically storming cartel compounds, freeing the world from the scourge of cocaine. Trump himself says it’s coming “very soon.” He says the land is “easier.” Easier than what? Easier than telling the truth? Probably. This whole dog and pony show is designed to give them the moral high ground, a flimsy excuse to roll tanks and deploy troops into a sovereign nation without having to say the quiet part out loud. The media, of course, dutifully parrots this line because they are part of the machine, the propaganda arm of the military-industrial complex that feeds on perpetual conflict. They splash the words “drug traffickers” across their screens, knowing full well it’s a pretext, a casus belli as old as empire itself. It’s the same playbook they ran in Panama against Noriega (who was on the CIA payroll, by the way) and the same justification for funneling billions into Colombia for decades. It never stops the drugs. It never was *meant* to stop the drugs. It’s just the cover story. The excuse.

Just last week, the same Donald Trump who is now promising imminent military action was on the phone with Nicolás Maduro. Let that sink in. You don’t have a casual chat with the leader of a country you genuinely believe is a narco-state that poses an existential threat to your nation. You don’t call up the boogeyman to shoot the breeze. This isn’t a conflict of ideologies. It’s not a battle for freedom. It is a negotiation. It’s a shakedown. The threats of “land strikes” are just the next phase of that negotiation, the part where you hold a gun to someone’s head and ask them to sign on the dotted line. The public threats are the leverage. The phone call is the real business. One minute they’re enemies of the state, the next they’re on a first-name basis. It’s all a game. This is Monroe Doctrine 2.0, the arrogant belief that all of Latin America is America’s “backyard” to be controlled, exploited, and policed as Washington sees fit. They see China and Russia making deals with Maduro, gaining influence in the hemisphere, and the establishment in D.C. (both parties, don’t fool yourself) absolutely loses its mind. They can’t stand the competition. So they invent a crisis. They sanction the country into starvation to foment unrest, then they blame the government they’re trying to overthrow for the ensuing chaos. And when that doesn’t work fast enough, they start beating the war drums, using a phantom drug war as their marching music. It is a disgusting, predictable, and transparent pattern of behavior for anyone who has been paying attention for the last century. They did it in Iraq with non-existent WMDs. They did it in Libya under the guise of “humanitarian intervention,” leaving behind a failed state and slave markets. And now they’re trying to do it in Venezuela. Same script, different country.
What “Land Strikes” Really Means
Don’t be naive about what “land strikes” entails. This isn’t going to be a clean, surgical operation like in a Hollywood movie. This is the precursor to chaos. It means CIA-backed paramilitaries, special forces operations that are completely deniable, and arming opposition groups to start a civil war. It means creating enough instability and bloodshed that they can then justify a larger, more overt military presence to “stabilize” the region. The region they just destabilized. They’re manufacturing consent for a war of plunder, and the first casualty, as always, is the truth. Don’t let them fool you this time.
